Visual References to Bookmark Issue 05
Things I’m obsessing over right now
This post might be too long for email, open it in your browser or the Substack app for the best reading experience.
Welcome to Visual References to Bookmark Issue 05, a series where I share recent (and some archival) campaigns, editorial spreads, magazines, design systems, and more. All of the visuals shared are meant to spark ideas — from my archive, to yours.
Each issue takes time and a lot of heart to put together. If you enjoy it and want to see more, consider becoming a subscriber — it helps me keep creating and supports my work.
Let’s dive in.
1. Ayo Edebiri photographed by Jasa Muller for Paper Magazine
I love everything that Jasa Muller does, and this campaign is no exception. I’m obsessed with the colors and all the details. I love that he works both digitally and in print to create his work—it adds such a layered, tactile feel that gives so much more than simply digitally manipulating a piece.
It’s making me want to adopt more physical exploration in my own creative process.
You can view the full article on Paper here, and read more of Jasa’s process on It’s Nice That here.
2. Isabelle Vandeplassche’s soft pastel illustrations of everyday space
The texture in these is stunning—so soft, and I want to hang them all up in my new apartment. The colors complement each other so well. I love the simplicity of the work.
She also has prints for sale that I’ll be checking out!

3. The New York Times Magazine redesign
The New York Times Mag had its first redesign in about a decade, and I love it! It kind of reminds me of Rolling Stone, with the bold, all-caps type treatment and darker photography, and feels very aligned with digital media culture nowadays.
I really like the type treatment and how they utilize white space. The mix of photography and illustration is such a fun touch too!

I hope you enjoyed today’s roundup! Let me know in the comments which one’s your favorite, and share any visual references you think I should check out next.
Until next time,
Bailey x
