Visual References to Bookmark Issue 01
Things I’m obsessing over right now
This post might be too long for email, open it in your browser or the Substack app for the best reading experience.
Welcome to Visual References to Bookmark Issue 01, a new series where I share recent (and some archival) campaigns, editorial spreads, magazines, design systems, and more. All of the visuals shared are meant to spark ideas — from my archive, to yours.
Each issue takes time and a lot of heart to put together. If you enjoy it and want to see more, consider becoming a subscriber — it helps me keep creating and supports my work.
Let’s dive in.
1. Elle Fanning photographed by Szilveszter Makó for Who What Wear Magazine
I’ll be honest, I love everything Szilveszter Makó does. The art direction is precise and gorgeous, and his style is so crafty and distinct. I’m obsessed with the flat-lay style imagery and wardrobe choices here. There’s something to be inspired by in every detail. And don’t even get me started on the artistic elements — so unique and playful.

2. Details from the Being Funny in a Foreign Language Zines for The 1975, by Samuel Burgess-Johnson
I’m always blown away by the thought and depth of The 1975’s album rollouts. Samuel Burgess-Johnson is such an incredible creative, and I love seeing his work come to life alongside Samuel Bradley’s photography. The creative team behind these rollouts always goes above and beyond. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
3. “In the Bag” Column, Marie Claire Magazine (various issues)
I love any form of “What’s in My Bag,” and this column is so fun. I also love the simplicity of the design, with the main focus on the photograph of what’s inside the bag.
4. A thing, In the shadow of a doubt from the latest issue of Profane N°21
Set Design by Juliette Zakowetz | Photos by Valentin Abad
The first image stopped me in my tracks (well, scroll). I love how the shadows are used to tell the story. It’s a unique take that feels fresh and unexpected.
You can purchase the physical issue here.
I hope you enjoyed these! Let me know in the comments which one’s your favorite, and share any visual references you think I should check out next.
Until next time,
Bailey x
